Arrival in Huntersville

After 6 weeks of training in Calgary, we are finally in Huntersville, North Carolina for the UANA Pan American Junior Championships!

We arrived yesterday afternoon and met up with the many people here representing Canada. Our Team Leader is Catherine Gosselin-Despres and our judges are Madelaine Ramsay and Josee Daudelin. We also got to welcome Chloe Isaac and Julie Sauve, who are here for figures and solo.

Today was a training day at the competition pool. We spent the day working on figures and had our music practice as well. Tonight we are heading back to the pool for the Opening Reception which will include dinner and a water show. We saw the set up of the pool and it looks like it is going to be really great.

Tomorrow we get the ball rolling with all the prelims in one day. We start the morning with solo prelims where Chloe and Emilia will hit the pool to represent Canada. Chloe will swim 5th and Emilia 6th out of 19. Later that day the duets will have their turn. Becky and Rachel drew 4th while Emilia and Annabelle will compete 14th out of 15. We finish the day with the team prelim. We will be swimming 5th out of 6.

We are looking forward to a great competition!!! We'll keep you posted!

Training in Calgary

We are at halfway of our 6-week camp in Calgary!!! Our third week has been a bit challenging but in general, the weeks are flying by.

Training is going very well. Even though we have only been training together for a short time, our routines are looking good and the coaches are very satisfied with our steady progress.

Last week, we had the honour to be the invited guests of Team Alberta for their watershow, their final send-off for the US Open. All of the coaches were proud of our performances. Synchro Canada President, Lisa Schott even came down on deck to tell us how surprised she was by the level our routines are at already!!

So far we have had 2 figure simulations with judges coming in to help us out. The simulations have gone quite well and we are learning different things from each one. Our next one is scheduled for early this week. A big thank you to Dot, Chris, Carly and Sandy for donating their time to come down and help us out. We showed the team routine to the judges at the last simulation and they were very pleased with what we have accomplished in a short time!

Of course, camp isn’t all work work work. We have had some opportunities for fun as well. In our second week, Lisa Schott hosted a BBQ for us. Great food, lots of laughs, it was a great time! Last week we went to the Calgary Stampede!!! We all dressed up and enjoyed the atmosphere that is the Stampede! We even got to see a concert, Karl Wolf!!!!

A couple of days ago, we went up to Banff on one of our days off to spend some relaxing time together. We had a nice lunch, then we headed straight for the hot springs and spent a couple of hours relaxing in the very warm water. Then we took the gondola up to the top of the mountain. It was a beautiful day so we could see everything and the views were spectacular. Everyone has been having tons of fun and we can’t get over how gorgeous and unique the city of Calgary is.

We will be having our send off watershow on Wednesday, August 5th at 7:00 pm at Talisman Centre. If you are in town, we would love to see you and show off our routines.

More to come…… stay tuned!
